Equipment Advice:


Figure Skates:
Recommended brands are Jackson & Riedell. These skates can be found at our pro shop. You can purchase them for about $100-$150. To perform tricks, jumps and spins, figure skates are a must .

Hockey Skates:
Recommended brands are CCM and Bauer. Entry level hockey skates can be found in our pro shop for about $70 to $150. Hockey skates are a must if you want to play ice hockey.

Off Brand Skates may be found at many stores but should only be used for recreational skating.

Group Classes
All of our Group Classes follow the guidelines of either U.S Figure Skating or USA Hockey.  ALL of our Coaches have had Background checks through the above organizations and are SafeSport certified through the U.S Olympic Committee (USOC).

3 week: “Introduction to Ice Skating”

This 3 week group class begins with a 15 minute off-ice segment where the students learn:
- Safety tips
- Pre skating stretches
- Proper skate lacing & fit
- How to balance/walk in skates off ice

The skaters then enjoy a 45 minute on-ice class learning the basics of Ice Skating.  ALL 3-week “Introduction to skating” students receive FREE skate rental for their classes, plus FREE public skating on Saturday (must show current class card in office). This class is open to ages 3 through Adult; Children under 6 must wear a helmet and ALL skaters must wear gloves.

This 8-week acceleration program is recommended for beginning Ice Skaters. The basics of Ice Skating are taught and cultivated through skill based games and obstacle courses, with an emphasis on learning the FUNdamentals of skating.  Once the skater has completed the levels of our Penguin program, he or she will be ready to continue on to our Hockey or Figure Skating classes.  While enrolled in the 8-week semester, our Penguins skaters receive FREE skate rental on their class day, FREE public skating on ANY of our scheduled public sessions (must show current class card in office).  On the 8th week of classes, the skaters are evaluated on their progress.
This class is open to ages 3yrs through 12yrs; children under 6 must wear a helmet and ALL skaters must wear gloves.
Make-up classes are available during the 8-week “Learn to Skate” classes (Wednesday 5:30-6:15pm, Saturday 12:15-1:00pm, Sunday 12:15-1:00pm). First time registrants receive a FREE Pines Penguins sweatshirt to wear for classes.

This 8-week group class offers a wide variety of levels for beginning Hockey or Figure Skaters. The levels range from first steps all the way through to Jumps & Spins.  On the 4th week the coaches do a mid-point evaluation, so the skater and parent are aware of the progress made and any improvements still needed before the final evaluation on the 8th week.  While enrolled in the 8-week semester, our ”Learn to Skate” skaters receive FREE skate rental on their class day, FREE public skating on ANY of our scheduled public sessions (must show current class card in office). 

This class is open to ages 3yrs through Adult; children under 6 must wear a helmet and ALL skaters must wear gloves.

Make-up classes are available during any of the other 8-week “Learn to Skate” days (Wednesday 5:30-6:15pm, Saturday 12:15-1:00pm, Sunday 12:15-1:00pm). First time registrants receive a FREE “iskate” sweatshirt to wear for classes.

This 8-week semester, which teaches the skating skills required to play hockey is designed for first time hockey players.  Youth Hockey Director or Figure Skating Director must approve registration for this class. Skaters must be able to skate forward, backwards and stop with ease before enrolling. No make-up classes offered, but pro-rates are available. Group class card gives students FREE admission to any public session during their semester (must show current class card in office). The following equipment is required: helmet with cage, hockey skates, gloves, stick, shoulder and elbow pads, mouth & neck guard. First time registrants receive a FREE hockey jersey to wear for classes.

In this 8-week semester, the kids continue learning foundational hockey skills while applying them to game simulation scrimmages. No make-up classes offered, but pro-rates are available. This clinic is a great supplement to those in the hockey group classes or those playing Youth In-House hockey. The clinic, taught by the Youth Hockey Director, teaches continued development of hockey skills through skating drills incorporated with stick-handling and puck control exercises. FULL GEAR IS REQUIRED. Students receive one FREE stick & puck pass upon registration. First time registrants receive a FREE hockey jersey to wear to classes.

This 8-week class was designed as a bridge program for skaters that have graduated from Jump & Spin classes and would like to become more serious with their skating goals. The levels offered range from Freeskate 5 (Lutz jump) to Pre-Juvenile Freeskate test. Throughout the semester, the goal is to begin creating the “complete athlete” with on ice & off ice training. As well as, mental preparation/focus and the importance of nutrition for athletes.  On the 8th week, we have exhibitions for our skaters- This is a competition simulation designed to help them excel, by learning at an early stage how to handle the pressures of performing.  Proper Figure Skating attire & sneakers are required.

Registration must be approved by Director of Figure Skating prior to enrollment. 

No make-up classes offered, but pro-rates available. Group class card gives students FREE admission to any public session during their semester (must show current card in office).

 

“3A- IJS Intensive Training Program”

This 8-week class was created for the continued development of strong competitive skaters into elite level athletes. This is an intense skating class with many disciplines covered throughout the semester.  The focus is on furthering development of IJS (International Judging System) knowledge for the skaters, to help maximize points in competition- technical scores, component scores, improve GOE (Grade of Execution), and Levels of elements.
 
On Ice training- Jumps, Spins, Step/Choreographic Sequences, power stroking, edges, choreography & style, DARTFISH video analysis, pole harness.

Off Ice training
- Pilates, Yoga, Deep Stretch/flexibility, plyometrics, off ice jump harness, mental preparation & focus, nutrition for competitive athletes.

Throughout the semester, there are TWO competition simulation weeks:

4th week- Short program (level permitting)
8th week- Long Program

Registration must be approved by Director of Figure Skating. No make-up classes offered, but pro-rates available. Group class card gives students FREE admission to any public session.

 

Skate Camp
(Seasonal) Summer, Winter, and Spring Break seasons

Our Skate Camp is the COOLEST! The levels range from beginner to Pre-Juvenile freeskate. 
Every Friday is “FUN Friday” with a different theme for the day. Our Snowflake skaters can enjoy the Skate Camp during the Summer Break to keep up with their skills. Please check the Skate Camp category on our website for upcoming dates and additional details.


IJS International Training Academy
